Lavender & Lemon products aren’t certified organic. Some of my ingredients are certified organic, and I buy all my raw materials from UK-based suppliers.

Full organic certification is very costly for a one-person business making everything by hand, so for now I’ve chosen to invest in quality ingredients, small-batch production and full transparency. Every ingredient I use is listed on my product labels and my Ingredients page, with what it does and why I use it.

Water isn’t as simple as it seems, at least when it comes to cleaning and cosmetic formulas. 💧

Just-add-water concentrates rely on tap water, which contains small amounts of minerals and metal ions, as well as the chemicals used to treat it so it’s safe to drink. These can react with the ingredients in a formula and affect its pH, stability and cleaning performance, or stop the preservative from working properly. That may not concern every manufacturer, but it matters to me.

To control the quality and stability of every batch, I make my products with deionised water: water that has had its minerals and metal ions removed, so they can’t react with my ingredients or weaken my preservatives.

I’m mindful that shipping heavier products increases transport emissions, which is why I fund carbon removal to cover the estimated emissions from shipping my orders. You can read more in my Climate Commitment.

My cleaning products are scented only with pure essential oils. You'll enjoy the scent while you clean and for a while afterwards, but it fades naturally rather than lingering for hours.

In many conventional products, that long-lasting scent comes mostly from synthetic musks and other heavy aroma chemicals, designed to cling to surfaces and fabrics. They're often paired with fixatives such as phthalates to make the scent last even longer. Essential oils evaporate more readily, and I don't use synthetic fragrance or fixatives, so the scent is lighter and fades naturally.

What are phthalates? They're a group of chemicals used in many everyday products, including some fragrances. Several phthalates are classified in the UK as toxic to reproduction and recognised as endocrine (hormone) disruptors, and their use is restricted in many consumer products. Diethyl phthalate, the one most often used in fragrance, isn't restricted. But fragrance ingredients rarely have to be listed individually, so you often can't tell whether a scented product contains phthalates. I'd rather leave them out altogether.

Of course, we want our homes to smell clean and inviting. You can enjoy the scent of Lavender & Lemon products while you clean, knowing they're made without phthalates or synthetic fragrance. Many happy customers have raved about how wonderful it leaves their home smelling, and I'm confident you'll love it too.

The surfactants I use meet the biodegradability requirements of the Detergents Regulation, and my products don’t contain bleach, so they should be suitable for septic tanks in normal household use. If you have any concerns about your system, check with your installer.

My products are labelled under GB CLP rules, and the essential oils are used at less than 1%, within IFRA limits. Those safety standards are based on people, not pets, so please keep products out of reach of children and pets, never spray onto pets, their bedding or near food bowls, and move birds out of the room while you clean, as they’re especially sensitive to essential oils. If you’re unsure, check with your vet.
