Lavender and Lemon products aren’t certified organic. Some of our ingredients are certified organic, and we buy all our raw materials from UK-based suppliers.

Full organic certification is very costly for a small business making everything by hand, so for now we’ve chosen to invest in quality ingredients, small-batch production and full transparency. Every ingredient we use is listed on our product labels and our Ingredients page, with what it does and why we use it.

Lavender and Lemon was born during Covid, when I began taking a much closer look at the cleaning products I was using to keep my home safe. What I discovered was genuinely alarming: many everyday cleaners, including those marketed as “safe” or “family-friendly”, contain ingredients that can harm both our health and the environment.

I had also recently renovated my home and, when my cleaner was allowed to return to work, she raised a very practical concern: she wasn’t confident which products were safe to use on my new surfaces, including marble, unsealed stone and wood. The alternative was buying and using multiple specialist cleaners, each with different ingredients, warnings and levels of toxicity.

I was already deep into researching ingredient safety and environmental toxins, and this moment made something very clear: there was a real need for one beautifully effective product I could use on almost every surface in my home. That insight led to the creation of my best-selling All Purpose Cleaner, a gentle yet effective formula designed to simplify cleaning while caring for your home.

Those moments combined sparked a deeper journey. I spent the following year educating myself about environmental toxins, ingredient safety and sustainable formulation, determined to create cleaning products I felt completely comfortable using around my family and in my home. Lavender and Lemon grew from there.

Our cleaning products are scented only with pure essential oils. You’ll enjoy the scent while you clean and for a while afterwards, but it fades naturally rather than lingering for hours.

In many conventional products, that long-lasting scent comes mostly from synthetic musks and other heavy aroma chemicals, designed to cling to surfaces and fabrics. They’re often paired with fixatives such as phthalates to make the scent last even longer. Essential oils evaporate more readily, and we don’t use synthetic fragrance or fixatives, so the scent is lighter and fades naturally.

What are phthalates? They’re a group of chemicals used in many everyday products, including some fragrances. Several phthalates are classified in the UK as toxic to reproduction and recognised as endocrine (hormone) disruptors, and their use is restricted in many consumer products. Diethyl phthalate, the one most often used in fragrance, isn’t restricted. But fragrance ingredients rarely have to be listed individually, so you often can’t tell whether a scented product contains phthalates. We’d rather leave them out altogether.

Of course, we want our homes to smell clean and inviting. You can enjoy the scent of Lavender and Lemon products while you clean, knowing they’re made without phthalates or synthetic fragrance.

Our surfactants meet the biodegradability requirements of the Detergents Regulation, and our products don’t contain bleach, so they should be suitable for septic tanks in normal household use. If you have any concerns about your system, check with your installer.

Water isn’t as simple as it seems, at least when it comes to cleaning and cosmetic formulas. 💧

Just-add-water concentrates rely on tap water, which contains small amounts of minerals and metal ions, as well as the chemicals used to treat it so it’s safe to drink. These can react with the ingredients in a formula and affect its pH, stability and cleaning performance, or stop the preservative from working properly. That may not concern every manufacturer, but it matters to us.

To control the quality and stability of every batch, we make our products with deionised water: water that has had its minerals and metal ions removed, so they can’t react with our ingredients or weaken our preservatives.

We’re mindful that shipping heavier products increases transport emissions, which is why we fund carbon removal to cover the estimated emissions from shipping our orders. You can read more in our Climate Commitment.

Hopefully you’ll soon find Lavender and Lemon stocked in your local refill shop, which will reduce transport emissions even further.

Like all cleaning products, ours should be kept out of reach of children and pets. They can cause serious eye irritation, so take care not to spray towards faces.

The essential oils we use are kept within IFRA limits, which are set for human use rather than for animals. Many of our customers have pets, and our products were developed in a home with three dogs, but it’s always wise to be cautious:

• Never spray directly onto your pet, their bedding or near their food and water bowls.
• Birds are particularly sensitive to airborne essential oils, so move them out of the room while you clean.
• Our liquid cleaners contain less than 1% essential oils.
• Allergens are listed on every label and product page.

Lavender and Lemon products are formulated in small batches in Abergavenny, a beautiful Welsh town at the foot of the Brecon Beacons. We are an approved member of "Made In Britain".

All cleaning products sold in Great Britain must be classified and labelled under the GB CLP Regulation, based on what’s in them. Our liquid cleaners carry the exclamation mark symbol and the word “Warning” because they can cause serious eye irritation if they get into the eyes. If that happens, rinse cautiously with water for several minutes.

Our labels also name any ingredient that may cause an allergic reaction in sensitive people, such as our preservative benzyl alcohol and some essential oils. Under the Detergents Regulation, we also list the fragrance allergens that occur naturally in our essential oils.

These warnings are common across cleaning products, including those made with essential oils. Each product’s label and product page shows its specific warnings.

Yes, you can use any container you prefer. If you do, label it clearly with the product name and keep it out of reach of children. We recommend using a Lavender and Lemon bottle or tin where you can, because our labels meet Classification, Labelling and Packaging (CLP) regulations and list every ingredient and safety warning in case you ever need to refer to them.

Our aluminium containers are built to last, so you can refill them again and again as long as they’re undamaged. If a bottle does become damaged, it can go in your kerbside recycling.

Yes, all containers will arrive filled with whatever product you have ordered.

Yes, refill packaging is either cardboard or aluminium and can be fully recycled with their labels at the curbside. 

We have invested in high-quality spray triggers and pumps, so they should require very little maintenance. If for some reason they clog, run under warm water to clean.
